Jacob Ryan Wright returns this season to the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute to pursue the Professional Artist Certificate. He will be performing the role of Tom Rakewell in scenes from The Rake's Progress as well as making role debuts on the mainstage as Ramiro in La cenerentola and as Pelléas in Impressions de Pelléas.
Last season, Jacob was seen at the Institute as Arcadio in Florencia en el Amazonas and Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos.
Jacob joined the Chautauqua Opera Company as a Studio Artist for the 2017 Summer Season where he covered Apollo in Respighi’s realization of the Monteverdi L’Orfeo. Recently, Jacob was awarded 2nd Prize at the Heafner-Williams Competition.
In 2016 he was an Apprentice Artist with the Sarasota Opera before making his debut with Asheville Lyric Opera as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. In 2015, he sang Gastone in La traviata with North Carolina Opera and won 3rd Prize and the Audience Favorite Award (Young Artist Division) at the 2015 Orpheus Vocal Competition. In 2014, Jacob was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera where he sang Gastone in La traviata on the mainstage.
Jacob earned a Master of Music degree from University of Michigan where he performed Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Il Conte Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos. Other roles include Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Donald Hopewell in Gallantry and Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Frederic in Pirates of Penzance, Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore.
