J’rai Hammonds began studying ballet at Greensboro Ballet at the age of 13, performing with the Youth Ensemble and eventually as a Company Trainee. She continued her dance training at The Performing and Visual Arts Academy at Weaver Academy. She currently trains at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she focuses on Contemporary Dance. She has attended summer programs at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as a Level II Scholarship recipient.
J’rai has performed diverse works that have helped to shape her into the versatile dancer she is today. She has performed in the Special Olympic World Games Los Angeles as a backup dancer and finale performer with Debbie Allen and in “Democracy” by Doug Varone, “April” by Brenda Daniels, “Bullet” by Stefanie Batten Bland and “Sunny Day” by Charles Czarny.
She has also had the honor of working with various choreographers such as Catherine Miller, Sean Sullivan and Kelly Maxner. In addition to dancing, she is a Certified Personal Trainer under the American Council on Exercise and continues her fitness education in order to expand her fitness brand “Get Up and Glo.” Her brand that promotes health, wellness and positivity is growing rapidly in Greensboro, North Carolina.
