Counseling Intern AY 2017-2018Counseling Services
Anna Fleig

I am a counseling intern at UNCSA. I am currently a student at Wake Forest University working toward dual Master of Divinity/Master of Arts in Counseling degrees. My academic and professional interests tend to focus on issues of spirituality and sexuality, including but not limited to questions of gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and sexual expression. In my therapeutic work on these sometimes difficult topics, I endorse approaches that incorporate acceptance, integration, wholeness, and living in alignment with one’s personal values.

My hope is to learn with and from this diverse population of creative and talented individuals at UNCSA. Recognizing the unique needs of every person, I seek to work collaboratively with students to help them navigate difficult transitions and life challenges in a way that honors their particular views and perspectives.

As a counselor-in-training I have worked with individuals and groups on issues of depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, and substance use, addiction, and recovery using a variety of therapeutic approaches. I am also a trained facilitator for both Safe Zone and Our Whole Lives (OWL). My work with others is rooted in the belief that all persons have the right to pursue meaningful, fulfilling lives, even as we experience life difficulties. Counseling can offer a safe, non-judgmental space to investigate and face those challenges.
