Chad Downard

Chad Downard has taught courses in Color, Design, Wet Media (Painting), and Digital Graphics in the School of Design and Production since 2015. His visual art career has been multifaceted, as he has worked as a painter, printmaker, sculptor, fabricator, designer, model-builder, assistant curator, among other art endeavors. He is also involved as a co-investigator and teaching artist with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, researching methods using art as a therapeutic measure to improve the quality of life in HIV/AIDS patients.

• Taught art in the community, schools, museums, art institutes, and universities at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Worked with diverse and marginalized groups from children to adults in multiple non-profits and arts organizations
• Collaborated with and worked for public artists and architects.
• Served in public art commissions in Seattle and Winston-Salem.
• Shown his work both nationally and internationally, winning numerous awards for his art and design.

Career Highlights

• Keeping up with, mentoring, and following the careers of the many students he has taught over the years.
• Served in the military for 12 years, lived in Asia for more than two years, traveled to over 40 countries, and visited every state in the contiguous United States.
