Cindy Liberty

In 2008, Cynthia B. Liberty became the Executive Director for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit 501c3 sole support entity for UNCSA. Liberty manages the privately fundraised gifts held in the UNCSA Foundation of over $100 million and provides accounting support to the Semans Art Fund of over $5.2 million and UNCSA Advancement Department. Liberty served as the interim CFO for the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts with approximately a $1.5 million budget from 2013 – 2018.

Liberty has served on the Grant Coordination Task Force, UNCSA Arts Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and UNCSA Chancellor’s Cabinet.  June 30, 2021 marks the end of a 5-year comprehensive fundraising campaign that had an initial goal of $50million that surpassed expectations to an excess of $75million. Liberty partnered with advancement personnel on fundraising over $26m in gifts. Liberty oversaw the reporting and accounting for campaign gifts and served on the Campaign Leadership Committee.

Prior to joining the UNCSA Foundation, Liberty worked in for-profit corporations in accounting and management for over 18 years. Liberty experience includes a wide range of accounting functions such as accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll, credit and collections, general ledger, financial reporting, audit preparation and oversight, inventory, fixed assets, job cost, property tax, sales tax, business licenses, strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, and unitized fund accounting.

Her background also includes board management, team-building, infrastructure management, and collaboration across multiple divisions and entities. Liberty worked in a regional office for RMC Industries, an international corporation whose primary product lines were ready mixed concrete, concrete block, and precast productions. She also worked at the Corporate Office for S&N Communications, which is a national telecommunications corporation. 

Liberty has a bachelor’s degree from Guilford College and master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Liberty successfully completed the Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) Advanced Examination in 2023. She lives in High Point with her husband. They have five children and six grandchildren.
