James Suttles teaches cinematography in the School of Filmmaking. He has 21 years of experience as a producer, director and cinematographer for film, television and multimedia projects.


  • Feature film credits include “The Nest,” “Seven Days Till Midnight,” “Shifting Gears,” “The Evil Inside Her,” “Alone Yet Not Alone,” “The Good Things Devils Do,” “Rift,” “Red Dirt Rising,” “A Dance for Bethany” and numerous other films
  • Clients include IBM, A&E, Activision/Blizzard, Salesforce, Facebook, GE, Time Inc., McDonalds, Zicam, Volvo
  • Owner of the production company SuttleFilm and Co-owner of The Asheville Studio, which provides production services including camera, grip, electric and lighting rental for the motion picture industry in North Carolina


  • Served on the board of directors of Native Intelligence, a film, music and audio book marketing and distribution company
