Marti Bessinger is an active performer and music educator, and is presently the music teacher at Arts Based School in Winston-Salem. She has accompanied numerous concerts on piano and organ with universities, high schools, church services and professional theatre. As a music educator, she believes in providing each student with the highest level of significant and meaningful experiences possible.
Bessinger approaches teaching through the lens of collaboration. She believes that a teacher must be a facilitator and establish a safe and welcoming environment where a student can blossom and gain confidence. For Bessinger, it is of the upmost imporatance that a teacher is accepting of their students on all levels.
She holds a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Oklahoma, a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and an Orff Schulwerk certification from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.
Embracing diversity and uniqueness of each individual will enable the teacher to draw out the student’s assets and creativity. In the end, we want students to become productive members of our society. In order for this to happen, we as teachers must reflect high values for our students to model.”
