Michael S. Rothkopf is a composer of over 50 works of chamber, electronic, orchestral and vocal music. He has focused on creating interactive music involving digital technology and artificial intelligence as part of the compositional design. Rothkopf was named an emeritus faculty member of the UNCSA School of Music in 2025. 

At UNCSA, Rothkopf taught composition, music technology, music history, music theory and career strategies courses for 32 years. He was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017. He served as the interim dean of the School of Music from 2008-10, and was Assistant Dean of Music and Graduate Programs from 1991-2013.
