Stephanie Patterson

California native Stephanie Patterson is the Associate Professor of Bassoon at UNCSA. She formerly taught at the Schwob School of Music and was Principal Bassoon of the Columbus Symphony (Ga.), and was the Acting Principal Bassoon with the Atlanta Opera. She has commissioned many new works as a member of the Enid Trio and the Off Broadway Trio. She is the Education Coordinator for the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Bassoon Symposium, and her performances often include staging, costumes, or other ways of connecting with audiences.

Patterson believes in tailoring her teaching approach to each individual students' needs and career goals. Musicians that come through her studio are asked to think about the world beyond the practice room and the concert hall, and consider what impact they want to have.

There is not one-size-fits-all way to teach bassoon, so we set goals and make a plan to reach them together. When a student artist feels engaged and excited about their progress, they will be motivated to put in the work to reach to apex of their potential.
