Bill Brewer

Bill Brewer has worked professionally as a designer, director and educator for more than 30 years. He has designed for theatre, ballet, opera, film and television, both nationally and internationally. He has worked at UNCSA for more than 10 years, and currently serves as the Co-Director of the Costume Design & Technology program.

Credentials

  • Previously taught at Carnegie-Mellon University, San Francisco State University, University of Minnesota and the University of South Florida
  • Some of his design works include a ballet for Theatre Dejazet in Paris, a series of dance pieces in Milan, Italy, and a dance film about the last hours of the life of Joan of Arc, filmed on location in and around Paris.

Career Highlights

  • Has designed for Berkley Repertory Theatre, Berkley Shakespeare Theatre, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Minnesota Repertory Theatre, The Unicorn Theatre, American Stage, The Waterfront Playhouse, Orlando Repertory Theatre, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Ballet West, Redwood Empire Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Opera.
  • Instrumentally involved with costume curation and installation for the USITT Prague exhibit in 2007
  • His designs have twice been included in the United States’ exhibit to the Prague Quadrennial and thrice been selected from USITT’s Design Expo for publication in Theatre Design and Technology (TD&T)
  • Costume designs for The School for Scandal were included in the gallery exhibit at World Stage Design in Toronto, 2005
  • Designed numerous projects for PBS and worked as an assistant designer for Lucasfilm
  • Notable productions include Cathy Rigby's "Peter Pan" and "Sweeney Todd," starring Jean Stapleton—both at San Jose Civic Light Opera
