I see myself as a companion in the therapeutic relationship. I work to provide a safe and supportive environment that will allow clients to explore their lived experiences. I believe every individual possesses the inner resources and strength for growth. I believe that change occurs when a person develops awareness of their unconscious world, gains access to the emotions underlying their experience, and has corrective emotional experiences within the therapeutic relationship.
From a theoretical perspective, I'm primarily grounded in psychodynamic theory, as I appreciate the opportunities to uncover the influence of the past in the here and now. I also draw on mindfulness based approaches, which can help clients become present to experience, and increase awareness to bodily sensation. In combination, these approaches support clients in healing old wounds, developing self-understanding and learning to live more intentionally and freely.
Before pursuing a career in counseling, I had a variety of professional experiences in different sectors. I was also a client myself before considering a career in counseling. All these life experiences have become the soils for me appreciate the intricacies and complexity of human minds.
I provide counseling for individuals experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, life transitions and trauma. I offer services in English and am also a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese. I am committed to creating an affirming and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ clients and to supporting people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
