Performance Overview

The UNCSA Symphonic Winds and the Wake Forest University Wind Ensemble unite for an evening of bold storytelling through music, conducted by Mark A. Norman, Tim Heath and Natalie Smith.

The program features Francis McBeth’s “Of Sailors and Whales (Five Scenes from Melville),” an evocative work based on Herman Melville’s “Moby-Dick.” Each movement brings to life key characters from the novel, including the brooding Captain Ahab and the elusive white whale.

Also on the program is the wind band premiere of Aarush Bothra’s “Caminandes Llamigos,” performed alongside the animated film that inspired it, and the consortium premiere of Nkeiru Okoye’s “Voices Shouting Out,” a vibrant response to global calls for peace. This collaborative performance showcases literature, film and contemporary music brought to life by the next generation of outstanding wind musicians.
