Baritone Cameron Jackson enters his second year as a fellow of the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute this season where he will portray Don Magnifico in Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Golaud in Impressions de Pelléas.
During his initial year at the Fletcher Institute, he appeared as Alvaro in Catan’s Florencia en el Amazonas and Der Musiklehrer in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, also participating in master classes with Warren Jones, Gayletha Nichols and Thomas Bagwell. Cameron’s 2016-17 season included debuts with Piedmont Opera (Haly, L’italiana in Algeri) and the Princeton Festival Opera (Don Fernando, Fidelio); as well as winning the North Carolina District Encouragement Award in the 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
Described as possessing a “rich and powerful voice” (CVNC), Cameron has also made appearances with Opera Wilmington (Vicomte di Cascada, The Merry Widow), the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra (Bass Soloist, Messiah) and Magnolia Baroque. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree at UNCSA, where he was an A.J. Fletcher Opera Scholar.
