Alumna Janice Lancaster (B.F.A. ’01, High School ’97) is teaching Composition and Improvisation. Lancaster has performed internationally with Shen Wei Dance Arts for over a decade. As an independent choreographer, she has received commissions from Hubbard St. 2, VIA Dance Collaborative, the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, Bard Music Festival, Bessie Schönberg Choreographer’s Residency on the Yard, Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center, and The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.

At UNCSA, Lancaster previously instructed Composition and Improvisation, Contemporary Technique for both contemporary and ballet majors, Summer Contemporary Dance Intensive, Summer Dance Professional Studies, and has been a Winter Dance Choreographer. She holds an M.F.A. from Hollins University/American Dance Festival and certifications in teaching Hatha and Restorative Yoga.

I encourage a broad exposure to practices that reveal multiple access points for critical analysis and expressing freedom. Thus, our practice becomes about learning tools for yielding desired effects.
