Performance Overview
Conductor Robert Franz and the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra dust off shimmering masterpieces from the 18th century in this lively program of music from France, Germany, and Italy—the “happening” music centers of the time: dances from Rameau’s comic opera “Platée”; Bach’s buoyant, dance-inspired “Orchestral Suite No. 1”; Geminiani’s showpiece “La folia”—one of the most recognizable and enduring tunes in music history; and, bringing this spirited evening to a conclusion, Haydn’s Symphony No. 85, “La Reine” (“The Queen”), beloved by and dedicated to Marie Antoinette.
