Trisha Mohta

Trisha Mohta is a third-year undergraduate performing artist from Kolkata, India. She has been studying the performing arts for ten years and is currently pursuing a BFA in Contemporary Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), along with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. Her training includes the study of various disciplines like Kathak, Odissi, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Cunningham, Limon, Floorwork, Contact Improvisation, Ballet, Bollywood and Indian Folk dance forms. She has worked with choreographers like Sidra Bell, Grady Bowman, Ashley Lindsey, Brenda Daniels, Patricia Casey, Kira Blazek-Ziaii, and Janice Lancaster.

Trisha has choreographed for a variety of groups for competitions and performances at distinct levels. Her pieces are heavily influenced by the patterns and cultures around her. In her exploration of how elements beyond movement can enhance the impact of the piece, she has been working on multiple dance film and site-specific projects. Interested in storytelling, leadership, building community and creating an inclusive environment, she wants to pursue a career as a collaborative artist.

Trisha is a certified trainer for Mat Pilates and works with individuals around her to help them develop strength, stability and feel better connected to their bodies as a whole. Through her work with ArtistCorps in the past year, she has served at Diggs-Latham Elementary School and RJ Reynolds High School weekly to increase the exposure and accessibility to dance education in these schools. She also works with dementia patients through the Music Between Us program at the Williams Adult Day Center to facilitate movement practices.

Trisha grew up seeking out arts communities and ways to serve that community. As a high school student, she helped teach under-resourced children, organizing events for them on holidays and assisting with fundraising. Coming to America, she felt the need to give back to this community and promote arts education and engagement. She is excited to pursue these endeavors through her work with ArtistCorps.
