Performance Overview

The Balourdet Quartet opens the School of Music’s guest artist series with a dynamic evening of works for string quartet. The program features a mix of compositions by Beethoven, Maurice Ravel and Amy Beach, alongside a captivating recent work, “impossible inventions,” by contemporary composer Paul Novak. Each piece evokes vivid images of rustic life and nature, obscured in coloristic mirages and boundless sonic exploration.

Established in New Mexico in 2018, The Balourdet Quartet — Angela Bae, violin; Justin DeFilippis, violin; Benjamin Zannouni, viola; and Russell Houston, cello — performs more than 70 concerts per season and offers master classes across the United States. This will be their debut performance at UNCSA.
