Performance Overview
“There is not a single bar in this Fourth Symphony which I have not truly felt, and which is not an echo of my most intimate spiritual life…,” confesses Tchaikovsky to his mysterious benefactress. The riveting Fate motif, heard in the first and last movements, expresses it with unbridled intensity.
Music Director Robert Franz leads the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra in this symphony that moves from darkness to light in the most dramatic of fashions. The program is also highlighted by the world premiere of “Vanishing” by UNCSA faculty composer Lawrence Dillon, whose work American Record Guide calls his work “lovely...austere...vivid and impressive.”
